Waylon Vicini says...
I can only go on your description of Australian Football; that you've never 'really' seen a top tier game, with a back-pocket player making an 80 to 100 yard run along the wing, evading defenders to pop a goal from 50+ yards out.

Or a Rugby [union] game where a full back takes a catch on or near his own try-line and returns the length of the field for a try.

Instances like these are much more common in these games than you paint: And no where in any of the codes of football, save American and Canadian, is the play of a few seconds duration.

Gaelic Football and Australian Football are closer in style of play than you seem to realise, are no more a shambles than soccer, to those who know.

So with that said, the last game I'll spend my football dollar on is soccer, I've better things to do than sit in the stands or stand on the terraces for 90+ minutes for a boring nil-all-draw.
